How Cosso turns speech
into finished text.
Cosso has two parts. Dictation runs on your computer and is free. AI editing is an optional step that cleans up the text before it's typed.
Step by step
From shortcut
to typed text.

Press the shortcut in any app
Option + Space on Mac, Ctrl + Alt + Space on Windows. Hold it while you talk, or tap it once to start and again to stop.

Speak as you normally would
Whisper large-v3-turbo turns your speech into text on your computer. Filler words and words from your personal dictionary are handled on the device too.

AI editing, if it's on
The text goes to a language model together with your field's vocabulary and your own words. It applies spoken corrections, writes numbers as digits and makes a list when you count items out loud.

The text appears where your cursor is
In Gmail, Word, WhatsApp, your CRM or any other text field. If AI editing fails or your free edits have run out, the on-device text is used instead, so a dictation is never lost.

What it doesn't do
- It's instructed not to add greetings, signatures, prices or facts you didn't say.
- It keeps your sentences and tone instead of rewriting them.
- It's instructed to make a list only when you count items out loud.
Output style
Plain text or email,
one setting for every app.
Choose the style once in the app. Email style puts the greeting, paragraphs and sign-off on their own lines when you say them.

Questions about how Cosso works
- Do I have to hold the shortcut?
- No. Hold it for push-to-talk, or tap it once to start and once more to stop.
- Can I change the shortcut?
- Yes, in the app's settings.
- What happens when I'm offline?
- Dictation keeps working and the on-device text is typed. AI editing resumes when you're back online.
- Does AI editing slow things down?
- In our tests the median AI edit took about 0.6 seconds, on top of speech recognition.
